Hey,

I want this to look and feel more like a webpage than a blog .... so...

To post any announcements, just edit the "updates" page. Then copy and paste the old news from the "updates" page to the "news" page.

Please do not CREATE any posts. Just edit new ones. Creating a post means that that will be the post someone sees once someone hits the j-idol.blogspot.com webpage. ... and it will make it look too much like an unproffessional and messy blog.

After J-Idol 2007, I will need to create a new page, but then, I'll just simply create a new "updates" page, or change the template so that links correlate to the new updates page when you click 'news' under the menu.

So, remeber, don't create new pages because cluttering the account is no good :P

Plus, if you want to upload images, you can upload them here etc, or use a photobucket account. If you are uploading them onto blogger, just simply copy the link location and post that into the corresponding page [like uploading 2004 photos here, copying the links and then inserting the photo's location into the 2004 page].

Do not delete the below logo. I'm using it for the top of our menu. Hahaha.

J-Idol is back--bigger and better than ever! For those con-goers that are interested in participating in the J-Idol contest, they should submit their application to AN.jidol@gmail.com with the following information.

Deadline: May 5th 2006

Application:
1. Your name or stage name
2. Category [either Jrock or Jpop]
3. Artist name and name of the song you are entering the contest with.
4. Attach an mp3 of the song in the email. [Instrumental version is preferred but not required.]

Please send your application to AN.jidol @ gmail . com [but without the spaces]

Basic Rules:
1. Song must be in Japanese [a line or two of English is fine].
2. Song must be memorized when you preform it.
3. You can't bring the lyrics with you on stage.

Basic Information:
An audition is not required. There will be two rounds: a preliminary round (Saturday) and a final round (Sunday). 7 finalists will be selected from each of the two categories [J-rock or J-pop] to preform on Sunday.

Prizes:
Two grand prizes will be awarded for J-rock and J-pop. There will also be secondary prizes for 2nd and 3rd place for each category.

Detailed Rules and Regulations:
Due to the time contraints for the preliminaries, songs will be cut to about 1 minute [one verse and one round of chorus]. For the finals, the entire song will be sung. A different song may be sung during the finals than for the preliminaries. If you wish to sing a different song for the finals [assuming you are selected for the final round], please note this in your application email. There will be 7 finalists selected for the finals in each category. This number is only tentative, since if only a small number people apply for the j-rock category, the number of finalists chosen will be reduced accordingly. This is because of the trend from the two previous years was that the j-pop category usually has more contestants.

Like the previous years, there will be 2 grand prizes awarded; 1 for J-Pop and 1 for J-Rock. In addition, there will be 2 secondary prizes allocated to “Best costume” and “Best Dance/Overall Performance” “it/unique” factor and the ability to captivate the audience that we are looking for.

If possible, it would be best that you send us a karaoke version of the song you would like to sing, but if you are unable to find a karaoke version of the song, simply send us the song in mp3 format and we will try create a karaoke version for you.

NOTE: After sending in your application, please continue to check your email. When we finish making a clip of your song for the preliminary round, which will be approximately 1 minute long [which is about 1 verse and 1 round of chorus] we will send the clip back to you and you will be able to practice with it. In the time leading to us sending that clip to you, you can practice the first minute or so of the song more if you wish. However, just keep in mind that if you make it to the final round, you will be required to sing the full version of the song.

Another reason to check your email is because after the deadline, we will be sending another confirmation of your participation, and details regarding the contest such as time etc etc.

J-Idol is a contest run within Anime North. For more information about the convention, please see their official web page or the wikipedia entry.

J-Idol is not affiliated in any way with Canadian Idol, American Idol or other trade marked contests.

It is set up as a event for fans by fans of Japanese rock and pop music. It is also a outlet for any aspiring artists, and for those who would like the opportunity to get up on stage and belt out their favourite Japanese song! J-Idol first started in 2004, and each year the participation / audience numbers keep on increasing.

We hope to see you next year!
